CHIPs was an action police drama series which stood as California Highway Patrol, the show about daily beats of two motorcycle men patrolling around the streets of Central Los Angeles. They take assignments and advice for compilation of street cases from humorous stranded motorists to criminal investigations and saving lives on tragic accidents.

Partner officers serious Captain Jonathan 'Jon' Baker and free-wheeling Officer Francis 'Ponch' Poncherello riding their Kawasaki 1000's motorcycles cruising around the highways and interstates of Los Angeles encountering speeders and car thieves, helping stranded motorists, assisting for paramedic help on accident scenes and emergencies, chase law breakers and investigate criminal crimes such as high-jacking. Also social lives of this bachelor duo were highlighted as well, with the assistance of beautiful and 'chippie' Officer Sindy Cahill and attractive Officer Kathy Lindahan. In 1982 season, Ponch got new partner Officer Bobby 'Hot Dog' Nelson and probationary force trainee Cadet Sergeant Bruce Nelson.

The series completed 6 seasons with total of 139 episodes aired from September 1977 to July 1983 on NBC.

There were actually 6 seasons of CHiPs and the one movie, with the new movie soon to go into production.
